Welcome to your online Sunday worship from St. George’s, Georgetown for the First Sunday in Lent.
This is the first Sunday of the church season of Lent. Today we reflect on Jesus’ temptation in the wilderness that followed right after his baptism.
This is also the day of our annual Vestry. Vestry is online this year at 11am. The details for joining our meeting are found in the last few parish emails.
Family Ministry
St. George’s families, this week in our Sunday email we have a Family Page and some colouring and activity pages for parents and children to use to help them engage with the theme of new beginnings based on the story of Noah and the Ark.
Please sign up for our weekly emails to get those links to these great resources to use together with your family.
Opening Music
It would not be Lent without singing the minor-key set hymn “Forty Days and Forty Nights.”
The Reading
The reading for this Sunday is Mark 1:9-15:
In those days Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan. And just as he was coming up out of the water, he saw the heavens torn apart and the Spirit descending like a dove on him. And a voice came from heaven, “You are my Son, the Beloved; with you I am well pleased.”
And the Spirit immediately drove him out into the wilderness. He was in the wilderness forty days, tempted by Satan; and he was with the wild beasts; and the angels waited on him.
Now after John was arrested, Jesus came to Galilee, proclaiming the good news of God, and saying, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God has come near; repent, and believe in the good news.”1
Prayers and Message

Closing Music
The traditional hymn I am suggesting this week is “Lead Us, Heavenly Father, Lead Us.”
And for a contemporary Christian song, I suggest “Days of Elijah.” (Note that this version doesn’t have any of “oomp-pa-pa”rhythm Ron liked to add…)
I wish you all a blessed and safe Sunday.
Thank you for your continued support of the ministry and mission of St. George’s.
Be Well and God Bless.
Peace,
The Rev’d Canon Rob Park
P.S. If you are looking for even more church this Sunday be sure to check out our diocesan Facebook page and the diocesan YouTube page.
Also, I hope you check out the Lenten Musical Calendar that “Infinitely More” are making along with a few clergy from the diocese. I will be contributing to these weekly video in a couple of weeks. But this week The Rev’d Canon Martha Tatarnic and the Rev’d Dan Tatarnic are providing a short reflection along with a wonderful piece of music.
