Words Have Power

Welcome to your online Sunday worship from St. George’s, Georgetown.

This Sunday we reflect on Jesus’ first public teaching, healing and the power of his word in Mark’s Gospel.

Family Ministry

St. George’s families, this week in our Sunday email we have a Family Page and some colouring and activity pages for parents and children to use to help them engage with the theme of the healing power of Jesus and his words.

Please sign up for our weekly emails to get those links to these great resources to use together with your family.

Opening Music

I am recommending “Joyful, Joyful, We Adore Thee” as an opening hymn for all you hymn singers!

The Reading

The reading for this Sunday is Mark 1:21-28:

They went to Capernaum; and when the sabbath came, he entered the synagogue and taught. They were astounded at his teaching, for he taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes. Just then there was in their synagogue a man with an unclean spirit, and he cried out, “What have you to do with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are, the Holy One of God.” But Jesus rebuked him, saying, “Be silent, and come out of him!” And the unclean spirit, convulsing him and crying with a loud voice, came out of him. They were all amazed, and they kept on asking one another, “What is this? A new teaching—with authority! He commands even the unclean spirits, and they obey him.” At once his fame began to spread throughout the surrounding region of Galilee.1

Prayers and Message

Closing Music

The traditional hymn that I selected of our closing music is “How Sweet the Name of Jesus Sounds.”

And for those with the ear for more contemporary Christian music, I chose “Shout to the North.”

I pray you have a blessed and safe Sunday. I remain grateful for your continued support of the ministry and mission of St. George’s.

Be Well and God Bless.

Peace,

The Rev’d Canon Rob Park
