Family Ministry – January 2017

Dear St. George’s Families,

I hope you had a wonderful Christmas and I wish you all the best in 2017.

img_8263The Christmas Eve services were wonderful at St. George’s with the church full, listening again to the nativity story. It seems hard to believe, after all the weeks of preparation for Christmas, that it is over. The festival of Christmas is over, but the story of the work of the Son of God is ongoing, in the world, in our lives.

Messy Church is January 11 and the theme is Baptism – A New Beginning. We will be having lasagna for supper. The doors open at 5:00. There are some great crafts for the family and one for the adults only. We had a great time at the last Messy Church doing our Nativity Pageant. Everyone got a chance to take part including parents and grandparents.

Vestry is February 5 in place of the 11:15 service and the meeting starts at 11am. Vestry is St. George’s ‘general annual meeting’. It is a chance for the community that is St. George’s to gather, review the previous year and make decisions about the year to come. It is important for everyone to be a part of Vestry. The vestry report will be available the week before vestry.

The 11:15 service is our Contemporary Service. The music is contemporary led by the Praise Team. The liturgy is modern. The service is very relaxed and child friendly. Church School happens at the back of the Church where the kids have activity sheets and a craft to do. Kids can sit with Mom and Dad and join the kids at the back if they want and many times go back and forth between the two. During the sermon, they leave for the story and a game in the hall and return for communion as a family. They join the Praise Team with their own instruments for the last song. There is Tim Horton’s coffee available and Timbits which you are more than welcome to bring with you into the church.

All the best in 2017. Hope to see you soon.

The Rev’d Nancy Rowe
