Greetings St. George’s Families,

I hope this finds you well and that life is sailing along smoothly. The Christmas season is on the horizon with all its busyness. I hope that you are able to enjoy the festivities and the time with family as well as celebrate the true meaning of Christmas, God as Jesus coming to live among us. Advent is the time the Church sets aside to prepare for the coming of Christ.

At St. George’s a big event in the parish is the annual Christmas Bazaar on November 7. Doors open at 10:00 and there are all kinds of things waiting. There is a bake table, cookie trays, books and DVD’s, penny sale with a twist, treasure and trinket table, knitted goods, crafts and raffles for an iPad, lawn ornament, doll’s cradle with doll, afghan and a painting of the Forks of the Credit. People say that St. George’s has the best bazaar in town!

If you like to sing, or maybe you play an instrument, then I would encourage you to consider being part of our 9:30 traditional choir or our 11:15 contemporary praise team. The choir practices on Thursday nights and the Praise Team on Friday nights at 6:30. You can come out and give it a try at one of the practices if you like.

I am sure you are aware of the refugee crisis. Most of us were deeply moved by the picture of the body of little Aylan Kurdi washed up on the beach. You may donate to the Primate’s World Relief and Development Fund (PWRDF) of the Anglican Church of Canada. This is an agency respected for its work throughout the world. For those looking for more info and ways to respond to the Global refugee crisis please read more at the Diocese of Niagara with links to the National Church as well. The Government of Canada has announced the creation of the Syria Emergency Relief Fund and will match every eligible dollar donated by individual Canadians to registered Canadian charities in response to the impact of the conflict in Syria, up to $100 million, effective September 12 through December 31, 2015. For every dollar donated to PWRDF, the Canadian government will put one dollar into its’ Syria emergency relief efforts.

Messy Church this month is November 11. We will be celebrating Advent this month. We will be having lasagna and salad with homemade apple crisp for dessert. The doors open at 5:00. Please consider inviting another family along.
