Family Ministry – Sept. 2015

Greetings St. George’s Families,

It seems hard to believe that summer is almost over. I had a great time at the cottage and was sad to leave but I am looking forward to things getting started again. School will be starting soon for the kids which marks the end of summer, even though the calendar says otherwise. Enjoy these last few days!

Kid’s Camp 2015

As of September 6 we return to our 3 services, 8:00. 9:30 and 11:15. Nursery care is provided at the 11:15 service for this Sunday and Church School and Nursery Care for subsequent Sundays.

Messy Church is Wednesday September 9. The doors open at 5:00. We will be having pizza. The theme this month is the healing of blind Bartimaeus. It is a great story. There is a reflection piece on this story follows the letter. The edible craft this month is an eye. It sounds gross, but is really very tasty with cookie, kiwi and blueberry as the main ingredients.

Church School will begin again on the second Sunday of September. Church School happens at the back of the church at the 11:15 service. The kids work on activity pages and a craft at the table at the back of the church and leave with the Church School leader during the sermon for their own ‘service’ in the hall. They are back in time for communion. We are looking for volunteer leaders for Church School. The activity pages, craft and ‘service’ is provided (although you are free to bring something different if you want) are already prepared. You just need to show up and use what is provided. There is usually between 7and 12 kids on any given Sunday. This is a great way to get to know the kids and see how your child interacts in a group.

Spirited Study resumes on September 15 at 7:30 at the Shepherd’s Crook. The group picks the topic of discussion and it fluctuates between the topic and general conversation. A glass of wine or beer, or my favourite Bailey’s in hot chocolate make a great addition to an interesting evening.

Friday’s water fight!

We will be inviting the Kid’s Camp participants back as is our usual custom on September 29th at the 11:15 service. They will sing a couple of their favourite songs from Kid’s Camp and do a presentation of a Bible Story. Any kid who shows up that day is invited to come and join the group whether they were at Kid’s Camp or not. If you haven’t been to Church for a while, this would be a good Sunday to come and ‘give our Sundays a try’.

The work on the heating system replacement is progressing nicely, and the work of raising the funds to pay for it continues. The budgeted cost is $120,000 and we are at the $112,000.00 mark for fundraising. Thank you to everyone who has contributed so far. If you are able to contribute or would like to add to your contribution, please place your cheque in an envelope marked ‘heating system fund’. You will receive a tax receipt for your contribution.

Looking forward to seeing you soon,
Nancy
