Hello St. George’s Families,
Hope all is going well and you are keeping warm in this cold winter.
At this point in the winter, I have trouble remembering what the trees look like with all their leaves. I watch the birds at the feeders and wonder where they find a warm place for the night. They are always back the next day so I cannot help to know that God has equipped them with whatever they need to thrive.
Vestry, March 1, 11am
March 1 is St. George’s annual Vestry. It is rather like an Annual General Meeting. Financial matters are discussed and a budget voted on, decisions for the coming year are also discussed. This is an important gathering of the many people that make up St. George’s and I would encourage you to attend. Vestry takes place on March 1 at 11:00 (there is no 11:15 service that day). The Vestry Report is available the week before so everyone has time to look the reports and proposed budget over. We try to keep Vestry short so that you are out in time for lunch. There is nursery care available for the children.
One of the things that we will be discussing is the deteriorating state of the heating system. It is over 40 years old and an emergency repair done by the furnace repair company is at best a band aid solution. The pipes have corroded over the years and the repair is little better then duct tape as the pipes are too fragile for anything else. We will be lucky if the heating system makes it through this winter and a replacement is required. This is a major expense and a capitol campaign has started to raise the money.
Messy Church, Feb. 11, 5pm
Messy Church is February 11. Doors open at 5:00. We will be continuing our exploration of the epic story of Moses (read last month post about Moses). We are at the point in the story where Moses and his brother confront Pharaoh, up to the point where the Red Sea parts so they can cross through. There are some cool things to make and a challenging game. Supper will be “comfort food” suitable for winter and has yet to be decided.
Pancake Supper, Feb. 17, 5pm
Tuesday, February 17 is Shrove Tuesday, otherwise known as Pancake Tuesday. Tickets are available after services or at Messy Church. Tickets are $5.00 per person or $20.00 per family. Supper is served from 5:00 to 7:00.
Blessings,
Nancy
