Family Ministry – October 2014

Hi St. George’s Families,

Church School Story Time
Church School Story Time

I hope everyone is firmly settled into the school/work routine. Summer seems like a long time ago! Thanksgiving is coming up fast and just the thought of turkey and pumpkin pie makes my mouth water. It will be nice to gather with family again.

Messy Church this month is October 8. I will be away at a Messy Church Roundtable in England, but the Messy Church team has stepped up to the plate. Eamonn Dunn, a Kid’s Camp veteran and a Messy Church participant will be doing the celebration. He will be talking about St. Patrick and the story of how St. Patrick drove out the giants, elves and snakes out of Ireland. I will have a reflection on St. Patrick up on the website next week. Jan Lehman will be taking care of the crafts and, as usual, the kitchen team led by Janet Armstrong, will be making supper. Supper is chicken fingers this month. As usual doors open at 4:30pm and we eat about 5:40pm.

On October 25 St. George’s will be doing a fundraiser concert. As you may be aware, our finances are a cause for concern. This fundraiser begins with cocktails before the concert from 7:00pm -7:45. The concert begins at 8:00 itself features our own Ron Greidanus and his assortment of ‘merry musicians’ with the plan being to feature music by Coldplay and Sting. The concert is followed by wine and dessert. The cost is $100.00 per person with $75.00 of that as a tax deductible donation receipt issued at the end of the year. Please consider supporting this event.

On November 2 St. George’s will be celebrating All Saint’s/All Soul’s Day. Traditionally we invite back the families of those for whom Rob or I have led a funeral. Those names are read out and the family are invited to come forward and light a candle in honour of their loved one. Then, all are invited forward to light a candle for deceased loved ones. It is lovely way to remember those whom we love and see no longer.

On November 8, St. George’s will hold its annual bazaar. We have been told that ours is the best bazaar in town. There will be baked good, homemade jams and jellies, a book table with new and used books, treasures and trinkets, crafts, penny sale with a twist, and a tea room. Come early to be sure that you will not be disappointed as things go quickly. If you have some items that you would like to donate, baked goods, jams etc., items in good condition that you no longer want or books please bring them Thursday night or Friday. Please check the website for all details or call the church office (905-877-8044).

The Spirited Study is October 21 at 7:30 at the Shepherd’s Crook. Come and have a glass of wine or beer or coffee and join in a lively discussion. As yet, we do not have a topic for discussion but if you have something please let me know by email or by using the form below.

I would like to highlight The Men’s Club this month. The fellows gather on the fourth Wednesday of the month to prepare and enjoy a meal together. It is a great time for the guys to come together. Each month a theme is chosen for the meal (Irish, Mexican etc.). Check the St. George’s website for more details about all our upcoming events.

Hope to see you soon.

God bless,
Nancy
