Greetings St. George’s Families,
Spring is in the air and as we put away sleds and get the bikes ready we embrace the sun and warmth. I hope this letter finds you all well and invigorated by thoughts of the coming warm weather.
Easter is approaching fast and I look forward to seeing you during our great Christian celebration. Palm Sunday is April 13 and is the beginning of Holy Week. There are the usual 8:00, 9:30 and 11:15 services. We celebrate Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem. We also read the story of Jesus’ crucifixion. On MaundyThursday, April 17 we gather for a potluck supper in the hall that includes readings and a table Eucharist. This begins at 6:00. On April 18, we gather in the Church for a solemn service for Good Friday, the day Jesus was crucified. On Easter morning, April 20 we joyfully gather in the Church at 8:00, 9:30 and 11:15 to celebrate the Resurrection.
Messy Church is April 9. The theme this month is Holy Week and we will be journeying through the events of Jesus’ last week in Jerusalem, his death and his resurrection. Supper will be ham and scalloped potatoes and Resurrection Rolls for dessert (a Messy Church tradition at St. George’s). Please note the new time for Messy Church 4:30-6:30.
St. George’s is forming a ‘greening’ group to look at ways we can reduce our environmental footprint and be better stewards of creation. If environmental concern is an area that interests you, email The Rev’d Canon Rob Park at rector@stgeorgesgeorgetown.com to find out about being part of this group.
On April 12 there will be a general clean-up around the church. Many hands are needed to pick up the many downed branches from December’s ice storm and the general trash that seems to accumulate during the winter. St. George’s has a large property, with many trees! People gather at the church around 9:00, but come when you can and leave when you have to. Read more here.
Looking forward to seeing you this Easter season.
Blessings,
Nancy
