In two short weeks at St. George’s is the pinnacle of our yearly worship services as we prepare for our most important celebration of the year Easter Day.

Holy Week starts on Sunday April 13, which is both Palm Sunday and Passion Sunday. The liturgy of the Palms will be held in the church prior to the 9:30am service with a procession into the church to follow, weather permitting. We will also have a “blessing of the palms” as part of the 8am and 11:15am services. Also, there will be a reading of the Passion Story from Matthew’s Gospel at all services. Thursday in Holy Week is Maundy Thursday and we will mark the institution of the Lord’s Supper with a special combined service and potluck in the parish hall. It begins at 6pm. On Good Friday, we will have a 10am service which is always very solemn liturgy.

Also on Good Friday, at 4pm the Georgetown Bach Chorale, is performing Fauré’s Requiem in the church, and you can find out more about tickets their website. Here’s what their website says about the concert:

Some of the world’s most beautiful music has been written for this day of introspection and reflection. It was, in fact, on Good Friday 14 years ago that the Bach Chorale made its first appearance. This year, Fauré’s sublime Requiem in D Minor as well as Vaughan Williams’ Five Mystical Songs for Baritone will be offered to honour this contemplative day. Bob Knight, well known to our audiences will be our featured soloist. Light refreshments will follow in St. George’s Hall.

Easter Services

Finally, on Easter Day, April 20, to celebrate the Resurrection of Christ, I invite you to one of our three services, at 8am, 9:30am, or 11:15am. The music will be jubilant, the church will be awash with flowers, and the message will be uplifting.
