Hi St. George’s Families,
I hope you have some plans to get away for a bit this winter. Some place warm would be lovely, but if not, even getting away for the week-end to spend some quality time together is something to break up the long winter. Take heart, spring is coming.
Messy Church this month is February 12. We will be exploring the story of David and Goliath this month (Read about it here). There will be fish and chips this month on the menu. The doors open at 5:00. Please invite another family to come and see what Messy Church is all about.
I would like to tell you about a new venture at St. George’s that is a wonderful way to bring in some revenue. It is called Shop And Support. You purchase a gift card from the Church and then use that gift card at the stores where you usually shop. Gift cards are available for gas (Petro-Can, Esso, Shell), groceries (Food Basics, Sobeys, FreshCo, M & M Meat Shops, Superstore, Loblaws, No Frills), numerous restaurants, BestBuy, Future Shop, The Source, CIneplex Odeon, Toys R Us etc. For each gift card bought, the Church receives a percentage back, anywhere from 2-10%. It is a painless way to raise funds (no baking etc. required!). It does not cost you anything. I will have the forms available at the next Messy Church or online here. The forms are usually due the second Sunday of the month and the cards are available by the next Sunday. I can have them waiting for you at the next Messy Church.
Spirited Study this month is February 18 at the Shepherd’s Crook at 8:00. Some people come and enjoy a late supper, most have a glass of wine/beer/cider. My favourite is Bailey’s in hot chocolate – decadent! We have a lively discussion and no Biblical knowledge is needed. Usually the topic deals with living our day to day lives in the world.
Church School happens at the 11:15 service each Sunday. Parent volunteers encourage the children to explore their faith. Crafts and activity pages are done at the back of the church during the service, on a table set aside for just that purpose. During the sermon, the kids leave with the parent volunteer for an activity and then return for Communion with their families.
The Pancake Supper (aka Shrove Tuesday) is Tuesday, March 4, between 5:00 and 7:00. This marks the beginning of Lent. The next day is Ash Wednesday and there will be a service, The Imposition of Ashes, on Wednesday March 5 at 7:00. Many families come for the Pancake Supper and I look forward to seeing you there. Pancakes and sausages – it doesn’t get better than that!
February 26 is the Men’s Supper. The men gather together and prepare a themed supper that is enjoyed by the group. It can be Italian, French Canadian or any variation that the group decides they would like to try. All men are welcome.

May God bless you,
