It is with a great deal of gratitude that I reflect on the fullness of our ministry together here at St. George’s over the past year. (Vestry info below)
I am grateful for the hard work of all the volunteers who help St. George’s do the great things we do in God’s Name in Georgetown. I am overwhelmed by the support of everyone involved in the great success of our Bazaar and the Gourmet Dinner fundraiser. I am heartened by the efforts of the volunteers helping to clean the church. I am so grateful for the work of the Property Committee and the efforts of the Catering Group that made renovating our washrooms possible. And I am warmed by the great care shown in Christ’s Name by our team of Pastoral Care Visitors.I am also grateful that our reach and volunteer support also extends to the community around us. It is a shining example of Good News of Jesus Christ. St. George’s continues to be deeply connected to the community through numerous local partnerships. We have numerous ministries connected to and with these local groups:
- 2nd Georgetown Scouting (sponsor and meeting host)
- Mountainview Residence (a monthly service with volunteers)
- The Bennett Health Care Centre (monthly 2 services with volunteers)
- The Georgetown Hospital (on-call chaplain duties, and a monthly service)
- Links2Care (Open Door, POSSE, Holiday Hamper, and through Community Unity clean up volunteers)
- Georgetown Bread Basket (seasonal food donations)
- Halton Fresh Food Box (monthly pick-up site and volunteers help packing box)
- Community Living North Halton (host 2 monthly “Friday Friends” gatherings)
- Georgetown & Acton ALS Walk (volunteer church team entered yearly)
- The Alzheimer’s Society of Hamilton & Halton (hosting free community support and information meetings)
In 2014, I look forward to continuing to find ways to proclaim the Good News of Christ in our community. I am encouraged by the continuing ministry of The Rev’d Nancy Rowe and her teams of volunteers are doing to help us reach out and minister to families and children through Messy Church, First Steps, and the VBS program. I will continue to encourage all members to be good stewards of their blessings and to consider carefully their gifts of time, talent, and finances through Stewardship letters and sermons. I will, with the Management Committee and your support, excitedly pursue possible partnerships that look to renew and strengthen the blessings that St. George’s has to offer.
Peace,
The Rev’d Canon Robert W.A. Park
Rector of St. George’s, Georgetown
