Family Ministry – October 2013

20131011-140004.jpgGreetings St. George’s Families,
I hope you are enjoying this fine fall weather. There is much to be thankful for, farmer’s markets laden with the bounty of the harvest (the apple crop is particularly fine this fall), the riot of colour that surrounds us, warm days and cool nights. Creation is a wonder and a joy and our God who loves us, lavishes us with good gifts indeed.

Messy Church
Messy Church this month is October 9 and the theme is Being Grateful. We will be exploring the story of Jesus’ healing of the ten lepers. There is a reflection, as usual, on the reverse side of this letter. We will be having chicken fingers and fries, veggies and dip. There will be apple crisp for dessert. Doors open at 5:00.

PD Day Kid’s Camp
There is a PD Day on October 11 for the Public School System. and St. George’s will be running a Kid’s Camp on that day. The camp runs from 9:00 to 3:00 and includes lunch, snacks, games and crafts for $20.00 (cash only please). Registration forms are at the Church. If you give the office a call, a form can be left in the mailbox for pick-up at your convenience and similarly, can be left there when completed. There is also a form online here. We have some great things planned. For further information call the office at 905-877-8044. I am looking forward to another fun filled day!

Thanksgiving
Thanksgiving (October 14) services are 8:00, 9:30 and 11:15. I hope you have a wonderful time celebrating the blessings that God has given you and your family. Here is a simple grace (by Joan Fuchs) that could be said at your Thanksgiving table.

Lord, we thank you this Thanksgiving,
For the food we eat and the lives we’re living. Amen.

Parish Events
The Antique Appraisal Show on September 28 was a great success. The appraiser was knowledgable and funny. The variety of items that people brought in for appraisal were interesting. It was a great afternoon. Keep this event in mind for next September. The next event at St. George’s is the Bazaar on November 5.

Church School
Church School is back in full swing. There is an activity table set up at the back of the Church with colouring pages and puzzles related to the readings of the day. The children are in Church for the first part of the service and then leave during the sermon for a snack and craft. They rejoin their parents for Communion. If you think you would like to be a parent leader (preparing a simple craft, a snack and talking about the theme for the day to the kids during the sermon time) let me know (905-877-8044). I have some great resources. Feedback from other parent leaders has been positive, as has feedback from kids and parents.

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving. Looking forward to talking to you soon.

Blessings,
The Rev’d Nancy Rowe
