Family Ministry – May 2013

Hi St. George’s Families,

Hooray!! It is spring. I hope you are all well and outside enjoying this wonderful time of the year. I suspect that plans are firming up for summer vacations or at least some fun weekends away this summer.

Messy Church this month is on May 8 and, as usual, the doors open at 5:00 but arrive when you can. You are never late for Messy Church. This month’s theme is the Good Samaritan. We will be having a sausage casserole and also chicken fingers and chips (good pub food in keeping with our theme).

YardAndBakeSaleOn May 25 St. George’s will be having a Yard and Bake Sale. This is your chance to clean out your garage/attic and get rid of your stuff that can be a treasure for someone else. You are assigned a table at which you set out and sell your stuff. All your sales are duly noted and the total is added to your St. George’s tax receipt. There is always a competition between the bake table and the yard sale to see who sells the most. Donations of baked goods are gratefully welcomed at the bake tables.

On June 1st St. George’s will be participating in the Walk for ALS. Jeff Sutherland is part of the St. George’s family and St. George’s has always had a good turnout to participate in the walk and support the fundraising for ALS. You can register for the walk at www.walkforals.ca Check in is 9:00am and start time is 10:45. Pizza and hot dogs are served afterward to the participants. There are lots of wagons with children and baby buggies so this can be a fun family day. The registration takes place at Christ the King Catholic SS and the walk happens in the Dominion Gardens Park.

June 7 is the last of the PD Day Kid’s Camps. The camp is from 9:00 to 3:00 and includes lunch, snacks, games, crafts and lots of fun. The cost is $20.00. Registration forms are available on the website or from the Church office.

On June 9 we will be having a Church Picnic after the 11:15 service. There will be a BBQ with potluck salads and desserts. There will be games for kids and families and a chance to have some fun with your Church family. We should be ready to start the picnic around 12:30.

2012kidscamp04St. George’s Kid’s Camp is from July 8-12 from 9:00 ad 12:00. Kid’s Camp is for children 4-9, although a child who will be turning 4 in the months following Kid’s Camp is also welcome. The cost is $35.00 per child and includes crafts, games, snacks, a T-shirt and a CD with the music. There is a registration form online here or one can be picked up from the office (office hours are Monday – Thursday 9:00 to 12:00). You can also call (905-877-8044) and make arrangements for a form to be left in the mailbox for you to pick up. If you think that you would like to join your kids and be a leader at Kid’s Camp that would be fabulous (no charge for adults and you get snacks and a T-shirt and a whole lot of fun!)

Hope to see you at Messy Church, on Sunday or just out and about.

Blessings,
Nancy
