Family Ministry – March 2013

Greetings St. George’s Families,

We are at the half way point through Lent, however, since my next letter to you will be after Easter, I will be focusing on Easter in this letter. Christians are an Easter people. We celebrate the resurrection of Christ who triumphed not only over the inhumanity of the world but death itself and promised to us life abundant and life eternal. Messy Church this month would normally fall in the middle of March Break and I shall be away, as will be many of the people who come to Messy Church. The decision was made to move Messy Church forward a week. Messy Church this month will be March 6 and the theme will be Easter. We will be doing something different this time, so come and check it out! As usual the doors open at 5:00 but come as you are able. The fun is over by 7:00 so the little ones can get home in time for bed.

The Spirited Study at 8:00pm at the Shepherd’s Crook will be on
March 20. We will be exploring th2013FebKidsCampe meaning of Easter from different
Christian understandings.

The end of March is when the Easter celebrations begin. On March 24 Holy Week begins with the Palm Sunday celebration. We mark the triumphal entry of Jesus into Jerusalem, when the people lay palms on the road and greeted Jesus with joy. We gather as a community on March 28 for a pot luck supper and commemorate the Last Supper. This is a great time to gather with other families for a meal and celebration. After supper there is the ritual of stripping of the altar prior to Good Friday. On Good Friday we gather for a solemn service marking the crucifixion of Christ. On Easter morning we joyfully celebrate the Resurrection of Christ.

Here are the services and times for Holy Week:

  • March 24 – Palm Sunday (8:00am, 9:30am, 11:15am)
  • March 28 – Maundy Thursday potluck supper (6:00pm)
  • March 29 – Good Friday service (10:00am)
  • March 31 – Easter  (8:00am, 9:30am, 11:15am)

I am looking forward to seeing you this month. This is a wonderful time in our Christian year and I invite you to come to St. George’s and be with your Christian family to celebrate our life in Christ.

Blessings,
Nancy
