Hi St. George’s Families,
We had our third PD Day Kid’s Camp on February 1 and a good time was had by all. We even made the front page of the local paper.

The next PD Day Kid’s Camp is April 26 (registation form here). On Sunday, January 27, Bishop Michael Bird visited St. George’s and was able to see the great things that are happening at St. George’s.
We have begun our new format for the Church School. It is a start, and like most new ideas, it is ‘under construction’, meaning it will change as it needs to, to provide the optimum program we can for nurturing the faith of our children. The Church School happens at the 11:15 service. The children gather in the church (in a space created for them) during the service and create a craft that ties into the lesson. During the sermon, the children leave, with an adult leader to interactively explore the theme. The children then return for communion with their family. Feedback is not only welcome, but necessary for this new venture to flourish. Adult volunteers are also a vital part of this. If you think you can be of help once every 6-8 weeks, please contact me at nrowe@stgeorgesgeorgetown.com . I can provide you with fabulous website resources like www.churchschool.info.

This is a busy time at St. George’s. This past Sunday (February 10) was Vestry. On Tuesday February 12 St. George’s has its annual Pancake Supper on Shrove Tuesday. Traditionally this is the time when all the ‘goodies’ are consumed in preparation for the beginning of Lent which starts the next day. Tickets are available at the Church office ($6.00 per person, $10.00 for a couple and $20.00 for any size family). If you want to get your tickets at the door, please let the office know so that the kitchen crew has an idea how many they are preparing for. The pancake supper is from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm.
The next day, February 13 is Messy Church. The theme is Lent. We will be having…..wait for it……Pancakes and sausage for supper! You can have pancakes 2 days in a row!!
February 13 is Ash Wednesday. Following Messy Church people will gather for a traditional, solemn service which includes the imposition of ashes. It marks the beginning of Lent. The service begins at 7:00 pm.
February 20 is the Spirited Study at the Shepherd’s Crook at 8:00 pm. The topic is “Does wisdom enhance faith?” No preparation is required and don’t worry if your not a biblical scholar. The discussion is lively and ‘free-wheeling’ and the company is great. The beer and wine are good too! Come when you can, leave when you need to.
Hope all is well. If you are lucky enough to get some time away in the sunny south, I wish you safe traveling and a relaxing time to ‘rejuvenate’.
Blessings,
Nancy
