Family Ministry – September 2012

Hi St. George’s Families,

I hope you had a great summer with a chance to connect with friends, family and nature. Kids are back to school and things should be returning to a routine.

Activities and programs that took a ‘vacation’ during the summer are starting up again at St. George’s. Men’s Club (Wednesday, Sept. 26) and Tuesday afternoon Stitching Group (September 18, 1:30-3:30) and Tuesday evening (September 11, 7-9) , as does Baby Talk (Fridays from 10:30 – 12:30).

Messy Church also returns with the next Messy Church on September 12. The theme is creation and we are hoping to do much of the Messy Church outside. We are hoping to have a barbeque although we are still firming up this plan. ‘Doors’ open at 5:00 but come when you are able. If you another activity going on that requires that you leave Messy Church early, just let the kitchen staff know and we can have your supper ready for you earlier. Be sure to read my short reflection piece about ‘Creation’ posted here on the website.

As was noted in the August newsletter, Church School registration will be on September 9 during the 11:15 service. It is not necessary to register for Church School in order for your child to attend Church School. Neither is it taken as a commitment of weekly attendance. Registration gives Stephanie McLean an idea of how many children to plan for during the year. Church School is for children 4 years of age and up. Church School is a great option but know that children are welcome to remain with their parents during the service as well.

On September 29th from 1-4:30, St. George’s is hosting the Antiques Appraisal Show. It was a resounding success and great fun last year. If you have ever wondered if that Elvis bobble head from the 50s is worth anything, or that funky vase of great grandma’s is worth keeping, now is your chance. A certified appraiser from Century Estate Services will do an informal evaluation of your piece for $20.00. No Jewelry please. You need to register your pieces for this event. You can come and watch the event for $5.00 which includes coffee/tea and sweets, a great deal for an afternoon of entertainment. Preregister your ‘treasures’ with Kyle Jones 905 873 2073 or pkjones(AT)cogeco(DOT)ca.

On September 30, the Kid’s Camp children and their families have been invited for a celebration of this year’s Kid’s Camp. This will happen at the 11:15 service. It promises to be a great family service and we would love to see our First Steps families as well.

St. George’s will also be doing Kid’s Camp during the PD days. The first PD day is October 5. Registration forms will be available at the Church office or online here. The cost is $20.00 which includes crafts, snacks, lunch, games and lots of fun. PD day Kid’s Camp runs from 9:00 to 3:00.

Lots of great stuff happening at St. George’s. Hope to see you soon.

God’s blessings and you and your family,
Nancy
