More Prayer for Lent

In my Ash Wednesday sermon, I spoke about adding something this Lent. So, instead of “giving something up” during this season, I asked folks to add more prayer to their daily routine.

I realize many of you already pray each day, but for these forty days of Lent, I hope you will add something different to your routine. In addition to the Lord’s Prayer and a piece of scripture, add some quiet meditation, for a change. In addition to your grace at meals add a short directed mediation from a book or another source. I am sure you can make a new space in your day for a little more prayer and reflection on Christ.

At St. George’s a number of folks already sign up for a quarterly booklet called Forward Day By Day, which is part of the work of the Episcopal Church in the USA. It has a daily reflection, a short scripture verse, and a list of some other scripture passages you can read in your own bible. Here is a sample of their daily reading.

This Lent, I am adding the daily reflections from the Henri Nouwen Society. I am signed up to receive them as an email every day. You can sign up to receive them here.

Have a blessed and prayer filled Lent.
