Hello St. George’s Families,
I hope you had a really great Christmas and I want to wish you all the best in 2012. After the hustle and bustle of the past few weeks it almost is a relief to settle back into a routine. January does seem such a dull month. The house looks plain and bare without the Christmas tree and decorations and the night is darker without the colourful lights. And of course in January comes the work of getting rid of those extra festive pounds!
A new year means new beginnings as well. It is my hope that your 2012 plans include St. George’s. Church is not the building or even the institution. Christ’s definition of Church is quite simple, “When 2 or 3 are gathered in my name.” Church is the gathering of people to be with Christ, in worship, in learning, in exploring faith together, in serving. St. George’s offers many opportunities to gather whether it be on Sunday morning, Thursday morning or Messy Church. St George’s offers many activities to enjoy and many opportunities to serve. If you have any questions, or just need to talk, Rob and I are a phone call (or e-mail) away.
Messy Church
Messy Church this month will look at the story of Joseph (he of the dream-coat fame). We will be making dreamcatchers, learning to write our name in Egyptian hieroglyphics, exploring our family tree and more. Supper will be spaghetti, salad and date squares (I can’t promise they will be made with Egyptian dates). I will be away for this Messy Church and Kyle Jones will be leading. Messy Church is January 11 and, as usual, the doors open at 5:00.
Spirited Study
The Spirited Study is on the third Wednesday, January 18, at the Shepherd’s Crook. We had a lively discussion on Paul Young’s book ‘The Shack’ in December and the group decided that we will continue that discussion in an upcoming session. Not everyone had read the book, but entered into the discussion with enthusiasm. This month’s topic is “Judging Right And Wrong”. Rob Park will be there and I am sure the discussion will be engaging.
Baby Talk
The Baby Talk group is growing. If you, or someone you know are expecting or have a young baby, consider Baby Talk. They meet each Friday between 10:30 and 12:30 in the St. George’s lounge.
Church School
Church School resumes after the Christmas break on January 8th with a discussion on one of the Fruits of the Spirit, January 15th Elizabeth, January 22nd with a different Fruit of the Spirit, January 29th Ester and Eve and February 5th with another Fruit of the Spirit. Stephanie McLean welcomes all children at the 11:15 service.
May God bless you and keep you in 2012 and I look forward to journeying with you in the coming year. See you at St. George’s.
Blessings,
The Rev’d Nancy Rowe
